Ducati 200SS Elite 1966

This bike was one of the last two imported to UK by Vic Camp of Walthamstow

Vic Camp customised the bike as a café racer with fibre glass racing tank, single seat, swept back exhaust with Gold Star silencer and rear set footrests. It was also fitted with alloy wheel rims and a rev counter

This bike was sent for a road test by one of the Motorcycle magazines and appeared in an issue during the autumn of 1966.

Before the road test Vic Camp’s senior mechanic, Burt Furness, rode the bike for a couple of months to run it in a bit before the road test

I purchased the bike from Vic Camp in 1967 with about 1000 miles on the clock and I used it until 1977. It then stood in my garage unused until a few years ago when I retired, and I decided to refurbish it

You will see from the photos it is no longer a café racer. I have purchased a new seat, exhaust pipe and silencer. The fibre glass tank has been replaced with a copy ‘jelly mould’ tank made from polished alloy. There are mixed opinions to leave it or paint it in Ducati colours, new owner can decide

All paint work has been powder coated but unfortunately one of the toolboxes has gone missing

Regards the engine, a new piston and rings were purchased, and the barrel was honed to match the new piston by Ainsley Barwick who was recommended by Lacey Ducati who supplied the piston and rings

The cylinder head was overhauled by Ray Pettit, London, reseating the valves etc

Approximately 95% of the electric wiring has been replaced along with new coil, Stator and regulator supplied by Electrix World. I have retained 6v set up, but it could easily be converted to 12v with the acquisition of a new battery, coil and bulbs

New tyres have been fitted, new rear shock absorbers along with various other new items including carburettor slide, needle and jets and brake/ clutch cables

Motorcycle age certificate was issued by Ducati owners club

Original log book available and new V5
